Isolated attosecond pulses from laser-driven synchrotron radiation.
A quantitative theory of attosecond pulse generation in relativistically driven overdense plasma slabs is presented based on an explicit analysis of synchrotron-type electron trajectories. The subcycle, field-controlled release, and subsequent nanometer-scale acceleration of relativistic electron bunches under the combined action of the laser and ionic potentials give rise to coherent radiation...
متن کاملGeneration of femtosecond pulses of synchrotron radiation
Femtosecond synchrotron pulses were generated directly from an electron storage ring. An ultrashort laser pulse was used to modulate the energy of electrons within a 100-femtosecond slice of the stored 30-picosecond electron bunch. The energy-modulated electrons were spatially separated from the long bunch and used to generate approximately 300-femtosecond synchrotron pulses at a bend-magnet be...
متن کاملNuclear Resonant Surface Diffraction of Synchrotron Radiation.
Nuclear resonant x-ray diffraction in grazing incidence geometry is used to determine the lateral magnetic configuration in a one-dimensional lattice of ferromagnetic nanostripes. During magnetic reversal, strong nuclear superstructure diffraction peaks appear in addition to the electronic ones due to an antiferromagnetic order in the nanostripe lattice. We show that the analysis of the angular...
متن کاملResonant diffraction of synchrotron radiation by a nuclear multilayer.
We report the observation of nuclear resonant diffraction of synchrotron radiation by a synthetic multilayer. The nuclear period of the [57Fe(22&/Sc( 1 lA]/Fe(228i)/Sc(l l&l x 25 multilayer was chosen~ to be twice the electronic period to obtain a pure nuclear Bragg reflection. Strong enhancement of the radiative scattering channel provided a fast time response for the 57Fe resonant scattering ...
متن کاملFemtosecond X-ray Pulses from a Synchrotron
An important frontier in ultrafast science is the application of femtosecond x-ray pulses to the study of structural dynamics in condensed matter. We show that femtosecond laser pulses can be used to generate high-brightness, tunable, femtosecond x-ray pulses from a synchrotron. Performance of existing and proposed femtosecond x-ray beamlines at the Advanced Light Source synchrotron are discussed.
